According to NPR, Bloomberg, and Reuters, Russia's parliament has just approved the use of armed forces in foreign lands. Putin recognizes the Ukrainian separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz also announced on Tuesday that Germany is halting the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK is imposing sanctions on at least five Russian banks and three wealthy individuals.

United States Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY), tweeted last night at 1800 EST from the account @RepLizCheney;

"Russia has invaded Ukraine."
